With an optimistic message for spring’s celebration, a “Hellenic Garden” will bloom at International Horticulture Goyang 2016 (29 April - 15 May 2016) in South Korea. The garden’s theme “Anthesteria” is the celebration of spring’s arrival and the victory of life over death.
Greece’s most colorful and fragrant tradition takes place every year on the first of May. Greeks “Hellenes” (/ˈhɛliːnz/) spend that day in nature, picking flowers and making “wreaths of May” to hang on their front doors upon returning home. The tradition is said to be based on an ancient Athenian festival, the “Anthesteria”. Held in honor of the ancient god Dionysus, the festival takes its name from the flower (anthê) wreaths worn during the celebrations.
The garden’s design depicts a Hellenic spring landscape; its blossoming fields and clear blue skies invite people to reconnect with nature. The softscape is composed of plants common in Greek flora as a tribute to the Hellenic garden.

* Nikos Thymakis - Agronomist-Horticulturist/Garden Consultant- Honorary President of HEPMEA . Mr. Thymakis was the project manager of Greece’s official participations in Taipei Flora Expo 2010 and Floriade 2012. He works in Greece, Turkey and Qatar.
* Konstantina Stara - Landscape Architect/Agronomist. Ms. Stara’s projects have taken her to Thailand, Japan, Oman and Vietnam. She is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2015, she won the first place award at the International Flower and Garden show at Huis Ten Bosch, in Nagasaki, showcasing an Hellenic garden design.
